I have been watching propagandas around ladies since I was a bachelor student. Why is it so interesting to me? Well, because the propagandas are about something not really useful — I am sorry, but they have a huge impact financially.

#1 Skin color

In countries where dark skin color is dominant, there is a propaganda that having light vibrant skin color makes you beautiful. I have no idea who started this idea but the advertisement around this issue is every where. Who does not want to be beautiful?

Most advertisements show that men are not interesting to see ladies with dark skin color. Otherwise, ladies with light vibrant color draw many attention from men. Wow! It is like a judgment to all men that they are interested in ladies with such light vibrant skin color. For me it is a humiliation, indeed! Many products claim to give you, ladies, the dreamed skin color; body soap, body lotion, face soap, face cleansing cream, night cream, etc.

However, in Europe, where light vibrant skin color is dominant, the propaganda stands on the other side. It says that you look more beautiful when you skin color is a little bit dark. Get your tanning! Apply this special cream on your skin and you get it. Tourist destinations to tropical area or other placec with a lot of sun shine are quite popular. Do you want to get cheaper solution, lie down in a machine with a special light to give sun burned effect on your skin.

Do you see what I mean? Something is wrong in our society. If we really compare those two opposite situation, then we realized that someone is fooling you…

#2 Hair color

Most people in Asia have dark brown or black hair. It is a kind of a trademark. Most people in Africa and Polinesian have curly black hair. Caucasians most likely areblond or brunette. You cannot deny it!

However, technology came to change it. People start thinking to change their hair color for many reasons, including an experiment, feeling not confident, jealous, ashame, etc. For me it is an option and you are free to choose. In this kind of situation, I am interested to know why someone took this big step in his/her life. I knew one students in my university who changed his hair color every week. Imagine! It was every week. Even his friends made such a quiz or even bet on what color he would choose for next week.

I am Asian and my hair is black. For most Asian, finding a gray hair is a kind of shameful. I already had it since I was 15. I had no problem at all. My gray hair spread evenly across my head, but the black is still dominant. When I visited a barbershop, I was told that many youngster dream to have this kind of color. Wow! I amazed to know this fact and I am proud of it; it was original!

Some Asians, including my big families, feel uncomfortable when their hair turns from black to gray, even a little of them. Gray hair, for Asians, is associated with being an elderly and being old is not something they like. So, they decided to recolor it to black again.

Where is the propaganda around this issue? The propaganda is hidden behind the advertisement. In Asia, most of the models — maybe 99%, are females from the other side of the globe. They are looked amazingly gorgeous with their hair color. Most likely, it is due to their skin color is light. So, they are perfect to match almost any color….

#3 Nail polish

Once, a lady who worked as a customer service in a bank amazed me with her nails. They were colourfull and catchy! It matched to her outfits. I wondered… maybe she coloured them according to her outfits of a particular day. I did not see her shoes and bag… do they also match to her outfits of that day?

I do not know when the idea of colouring nails started and how people started to promote it. To me, it is not something useful. What is the idea behind it? I don’t know exactly!

What if they do not colour their nails? Do they lose their confidence? If so, then they put their confidence on their nails. If they do not have a problem with confidence, then why they did it. So far, I could not think another reason, except confidence.

#4 Eye lashes

Women should have long eye lashes! Who started this idea? Another silly idea is the eye lashes should bend upward to look beautiful. To me, eye lashes was created to prevent dust coming into eye. When they bend upward, dust may penetrate eyes easily.

For these reasons, women put artificial eye lashes that longer than normal and bend upward. However, something wrong happened here. It is weird to see a blond lady with dark brown or black eye lashes. Eye lashes are exactly the same as hair. So, your hair color determines your eye lashes color. The ones who have dark brown and black hair get more advantages in this case.

However, most of them seem have no problem with colour inconsistency, because they share the same burden. No one throw harsh critics over their weird appearance, as it becomes common nowadays.

#5 Young-looking persons

One day, my friend asked me about wrinkle around her eyes. I answered her that she had a lot! Surprising to my answer, she shouted to me! She was about 45 years old at that time.

Wrinkles are women’s enemy. They add more numbers to women’s appearance and looking old is like a curse for women; well, some men think the same idea.

For this reason, our world is full of commercial product that promise to eliminate that problem. Cosmetic manufacturers are in competition to provide the best product to fight against wrinkles. One ads that always remains in my mind was showing a lady, who was claimed at her 30s by presenting her photos, then changed to the new photos when she was almost 40. Most of the viewer agreed that the product successfully create her appearance 10 years younger. Is it true?

Photos from the first session that claimed she was at her 30s may be taken when when she was 37 or 38. Her photos on the second session that claimed she was almost 40 may be taken the following day. Well, you cannot blame the ads because it fools you. You have to think carefully!

Aging is normal and should be accepted as it is. However, people are afraid of it. Looking old is something embarassing and should be avoided. This situation popped certain business idea to promote that aging should be avoided. On the contrary, aging is a normal situation.

When I thought all of these, I came with one conclusion. Most of us never feel content with what we have. We are jealous to what others have. Having a feeling that you have enough can change many things in your life. So, be content with all you have!
